By popular demand, Jean Cacicedo returns to Slow Fiber Studios Annex to share her expertise and  creativity. She uses historic shibori techniques and an unusual European paste-resist method to produce inventive textured and contrastive textiles. We will explore  the physical and chemical structures of a specially designed Japanese fulling wool, using various techniques to achieve lace-like effects.

The two-day workshop will focus on the wool’s potential for manipulation and transformation, using patterns, textures, symbols and metaphor to explore design ideas. Cacidedo will demonstrate how to design and make stencils for printing and shrinking wool cloth using fulling resist paste. She will guide exploration of 3-dimensional design on cloth, incorporating raw wool fleece and various non-shrinking fabrics while using traditional shibori technology. This unique workshop offers knowledge about working with wool that can inspire those interested in developing their artistic expression while exploring a variety of transformations.
